I live in Charleston, SC, solving operational, technological, and financial problems in hospitals around the country.
I've been a pharmacist in for-profit and academic medical center hospitals for almost 10 years.
I enjoy teaching, helping people, and process improvement in complex environments.

My wife and I are raising two beautiful daughters and a dog in the lowcountry. We like to go to the grocery store, explore around our neighborhood, and eat pizza!
Diapers, Nap Time, Dad CooksI love exploring South Carolina's public lands for notable plants, mushrooms, and wildlife. When our calendars line up, my favorite outdoor activity is fishing with my friend John Fuss (who runs Holy City Charters).
Edible Mycology, Wild Game, FishingI have a small army of single board computers that I enjoy tinkering with. They were a great way to introduce me to the basics of Linux and run my first programs.
Raspberry Pi, Debian, Python, HTMLI have been playing guitar for more than 20 years, and am 1/12th of the Athens, GA supergroup, Basketball Team. Here we are performing at the illustrious Georgia Theatre.
Rock, Indie, Athens GAI am certified in Epic pharmacy and oncology modules.
I have also supported:
Meditech
Acudose/Omnicell ADC systems
Pyxis ADC systems
Baxter DoseEdge
...And created and managed small applications for pharmacy operations.
I build and use reports from Epic Reporting Workbench, Chronicles, SAP/Business Objects, and wholesaler systems to
gain insight.
Frequent tools include Python, Pandas, NumPy,
visualization libraries, reflexive report hosting, data cubes/databses, and complex operations.
When reporting needs exceed my technical abilities, I work closely with colleagues from MUSC's analytics department to set specifications and ensure report quality.

I worked with experts in MUSC's innovation center to create great value for MUSC's supply chain. Using tools we developed internally, I led an
operational team to secure significant medication savings. I look forward to sharing these innovations with other
hospitals and health systems as we extend our impact beyond the Charleston Peninsula.

I work with 1st through 4th year pharmacy students via mentoring, lecturing, and precepting. I have coordinated and developed curriculum for a 3-hour mandatory class for 3rd year students, and have precepted PGY1 and PGY2 residents for administration rotations and projects.
Teaching, Learning, SharingCo-founder • Nov 2018 - Present
QuicksortRx is a pharmacy purchase analytics platform
developed at the Medical University of South Carolina.
QuicksortRx software was created at MUSC via the Innovation Center, a collaboration
initiative between top technical talent and MUSC's Hospital and University staff.
Supported by MUSC's Foundation for Research and Development, QuicksortRx was spun out to
offer the tools and expertise we developed to other Disproportionate Share Hospitals.
Medication Stewardship • Dec 2016 - Nov 2019
As our pharmacy informatics team transitioned from the pharmacy department to IT, I was
asked to stay on and use my experience in informatics and basic analytics to expand our
pharmacy dept's medication use evaluation and pharmacy business
office scope.
As part of this new role I investigated purchase and utilization patterns, helped to
optimize our hospital's 340b program, and presented regularly to our P&T committee on our
hospital's financial and clinical performance with respect to high cost, high risk, and
recently approved medications.
Also, I mentored pharmacy residents and students evaluating
profitability of certain high-cost medications, and coordinate and lecture in a p3 class on
pharmacy/health system management for MUSC's College of Pharmacy.
Pharmacy Informatics • July 2012 - December 2016
I came to MUSC as they were expanding their informatics team and transitioning to Epic systems
from HMM/McKesson EHR products and paper chemotherapy orders. During this time, I led build and
validation on oncology medications, oncology treatment plans, onc user security, investigational
medications and protocols, prior authorization, infusion labs, and other inpatient and
outpatient workflows.
I also participated in MUSC's pharmacy operations committee, heme/onc P&T subcomittee,
and several intra-departmental and intra-specialty projects.
Staff Pharmacist • October 2009 - July 2012
At CMC, I was part of a 4-pharmacist team covering operations and clinical services at
a community hospital in Walterboro, SC. During my tenure in this role, we expanded from our pharmacy area out to the floors to work with
physicians and nurses directly. We built and managed our own medication records, order sets,
and protocols within the Meditech EHR system (with some help from Trident Medical Center.)
I also worked as a remote order-entry pharmacist for multiple hospitals with unique formluaries and policies,
and led our simultaneous conversion from cart-fill and Acudose systems to a cartless Pyxis dispensing workflow.
Doctor of Pharmacy • May 2009
The University of Georgia has a world class pharmacy program, and was an early proponent of
diverse professional experiences for its students on rotations.
I participated in an early clinical
program that partnered with the Medical College of Georgia prior to starting rotations, where I got the chance to work with experts in
oncology pharmacy and pharmacy informatics in an academic medical center environment.
